Breaking Off False Labels: You Are Not What They Called You
Someone called you too much. Too emotional. Too loud. Not enough. Broken. A mistake. And somewhere along the way, you started to believe it.
This week on the Fostering Faith Podcast, we are digging into the false labels that get placed on us — by people, by pain, and sometimes even by ourselves — and what God’s Word actually says about who you are.
Because here is the truth: the labels people put on you are not your identity. God’s Word is.
What Are False Labels?
False labels are the names we carry that were never given to us by God. They come from wounded people, broken systems, hard seasons, and an enemy who knows that if he can make you believe a lie about yourself, he can keep you from walking in your purpose.
Maybe yours sound like:
You are too sensitive.
You will never change.
You are just like your father.
You are damaged goods.
You do not belong here.
Those words stick. But they are not final. And they are not from God.
What God Says About You
The Bible is clear. You are fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14). You are chosen and set apart (1 Peter 2:9). You are a new creation — the old has gone, the new has come (2 Corinthians 5:17). You are loved with an everlasting love (Jeremiah 31:3).
God does not label you by your worst moment. He calls you by your destiny.
How to Break Off False Labels
First, identify the label. What lie have you been carrying? Name it out loud. You cannot break what you will not confront.
Second, renounce it. Out loud, declare: “This is not who I am. This was not spoken over me by God, and I reject it in Jesus’ name.”
Third, replace it with truth. Find a Scripture that speaks the opposite of the lie. Write it down. Pray it daily. Let the Word of God rewire what the enemy tried to ruin.
Fourth, surround yourself with people who speak life. Community matters. The voices around you shape the narrative inside you. Choose people who remind you of who God says you are.
You Are Not What They Called You
Whatever they said — it was not the final word. God has already spoken over your life, and His voice is louder than any label. You are not your past. You are not your failures. You are not the version of yourself that pain created.
You are His. And that is more than enough.
