Preparing Your Heart for Easter: 7 Days of Reflection Before the Resurrection
Easter is coming. And if you’re anything like most believers, you might find yourself rushing straight from the busyness of life right into Easter Sunday — without ever really stopping to prepare your heart for what that day actually means.
The resurrection of Jesus Christ is the cornerstone of our faith. It is the event that changes everything. But it’s easy to treat it like a holiday instead of a holy moment.
This week’s devotional is an invitation to slow down. To spend seven intentional days drawing near to God before Resurrection Sunday arrives. You don’t need a fancy prayer journal or hours of free time. You just need a willing heart.
Here are 7 days of reflection to prepare you for Easter:
Day 1 — Remember the Garden
Read Matthew 26:36-46. Jesus went to Gethsemane and prayed with everything He had. He was sorrowful, even to the point of death — and yet He surrendered. Today, reflect on a time you had to surrender something to God. What did that cost you? What did it teach you?
Day 2 — Consider the Betrayal
Read John 13:21-30. Judas sat at the same table with Jesus. He broke bread with Him. And still, he chose betrayal. Today, ask God to search your heart. Are there any areas where you’ve been close to Jesus in appearance but far from Him in your heart?
Day 3 — Sit with the Suffering
Read Isaiah 53:3-6. He was despised and rejected. He bore our grief. He carried our sorrows. Today, don’t rush past the suffering. Let the weight of what Jesus endured for you settle in. Journal your response to this verse: “He was pierced for our transgressions.”
Day 4 — Stand at the Cross
Read John 19:28-30. “It is finished.” Three of the most powerful words ever spoken. Today, meditate on what was finished at the cross. Your debt. Your shame. Your separation from God. Write down what the cross means for your specific situation right now.
Day 5 — Wait in the Silence
The disciples didn’t know what Saturday held. They only knew that Jesus was gone. Today, sit in silence for 10 minutes. No music, no phone, no noise. Practice trusting God in the quiet, even when you don’t understand what He’s doing.
Day 6 — Expect the Unexpected
Read Luke 24:1-12. The women came expecting to anoint a body. They left with a message that would change the world. Today, ask God: Where am I expecting death in a situation where He might be about to bring life?
Day 7 — Celebrate the Resurrection
Read 1 Corinthians 15:55-58. Death has been swallowed up in victory. Today, celebrate with everything you have. Worship before Sunday arrives. Tell someone what Jesus has done for you. Walk into Easter Sunday not just as an observer — but as someone who personally knows the risen King.
He is not in the tomb. He is risen. And because He lives, so do you.
Happy Easter, Fostering Faith family. Let’s celebrate the One who made it all possible.
